Here is what you need to know to become a Stem Cell Donor

A patient only has a 25% chance of finding a donor from within the family. Majority of the patients have to depend on Unrelated Blood Stem Cell Donors. The probability of finding an unrelated matched donor is 1 in 10,000 to 1 in over a Million.

You could be that 1 in a Million match for someone who is gripping on to their life at the edge with hope.

Any person between the age group of 18 to 50 years can register as a blood stem cell donor by clicking the link https://datri.org/join/

DATRI is a Not-for-Profit organization that was founded in 2009 with a mission to save lives of those suffering from life threatening fatal blood disorders .DATRI is working towards creating a wide and diverse database of potential Blood Stem Cell Donors that can be accessed by any patient, living anywhere in the world, in need of a Blood Stem Cell Transplant. They are headquartered in Chennai but have offices in major cities all over India. DATRI is registered with the Government of India as a Section 8 organization and all monetary contributions towards DATRI are subject to 80G exemptions.

The potential donor has to understand the blood stem cell donation process. Then the donor should fill up a registration and consent form. A buccal swab sample should be given and an amount of INR 1800 should be paid for the HLA typing of the sample. No medication is required after donation. Before Donation, DATRI would get a full medical check-up done for you, if the doctor finds any deficiency in the reports (which will be shared with you), then the doctor may advise.
