Hygiene during recovery
Most patients are still not completely off medications and some are even on immunosuppressants and steroids. This puts the patient under a compromised immune system. Hence, it is advisable to follow same guidelines as followed during the 100 day journey. Guidelines about hygiene during BMT recovery given below can help the patient to ensure prevention from infection.
- Take medications regularly and on time
- Strict protocols for sanitization of family and visitors
- No flowers or bouquets in the room of patients
- Some patients are also allergic to incense and perfumes
- Regular change of Bedspreads, pillow covers and cleaning of spaces of entertainment
- Daily cleaning of bathroom, handles, knobs, commodes, etc
- Patient is not advised to attend any large gatherings or social functions yet
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight as it could cause risk of infection
- Water hygiene, boiled and cooled or a good water purifier is a must
- It is preferred that Patients, Cups, Dishes, Glasses, etc are separate and cleaned well after each use.
- Separate toiletries, Napkins, Towels, etc is a must.
- Many doctors still advise the patient to use medicated soap for a while
Remember, the least the number of infections the chances of recovery are that much faster
