Nutrition and Diet
Nutrition and diet Post-BMT are very important elements to help regain immunity and help the body and cells grow stronger with each day. Hence, it is advised for a patient to take out a specific time before the hospital discharge and understand your nutrition and diet in detail. Some basic information could help this process.
- Only warm food and preferably almost immediately after cooking to avoid reheating
- No overnight food or stale food direct from refrigerator is not advisable
- Many doctors will still not allow you to eat raw salads and even some fruits
- Understand from doctors on what you CAN and CANNOT eat
- If you are a non-vegetarian, go to detail like Eggs, Yolk, Red meat, white meat, etc
- Food from outside like delicious Indian snacks like Samosa, Vada pav, Chaat, etc is a strict NO-NO
- No packed foods also like wafers, bakery items, some fermented foods, etc
- Ensure you eat a lot of veggies, greens, pulses, lentils, etc. Balanced cooked Indian meal is safe.
- Unless your doctor gives the green signal, pls. do not jump to curd, buttermilk, etc
